A WONDER DOWN UNDER

Statistics don't lie, do they? Australia supposedly has the most NEIL DIAMOND fans per capita in the world: Aussies bought more than 4 million of the 110 million records Diamond has sold in his 30 years as a crooner. And even though his new CD, Tennessee Moon, is more country-and-western than outback rock, it went platinum Down Under--faster than anywhere else--after only seven weeks in stores. "I think probably Australians have just a little more taste than most people," Diamond, 55, joked, as he began a world tour in Sydney. "Is this paradise or what?"
